How do I set up an account?

How do I post a job?

If you don't have a website, you can use your facebook or other social media page, or you can use www.uwec.edu.

Searching for Students

How do I find students?

UW-Eau Claire On-Campus Employers

Our UW-Eau Claire department wants to hire students.  What do I do?

First, you need to create a user account.

If you find that your department does not have an existing Company account, you will need to follow the prompts in the system to create one.

  • Please title your Company Name in the following format:  Department, UW-Eau Claire (Example: Advising, Retention + Career Center, UW-Eau Claire)
  • Location must be a real city and state (Eau Claire, WI). We recommend you include your actual building/office location in the Position description and Company Description.

After that, you can post your on-campus position. The article below outlines that process.

Should I choose ‘work study job’ if I can hire both students with work study and students without work study?
We recommend if you are able to hire a student with work study or without, that you choose "Yes" to work study. Many students use this as a job search feature. You should also indicate in the Description that you can also hire students without work study. If you choose, you could post the position twice, one with the work study option, and one without, which may make it more likely for students to view it.

On-Campus Interviews

Learn more here: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/sections/204202088-Interviews

How do I request on-campus interviews?
You can request an interview directly in Handshake. We will follow up with you if we have any additional questions, and then approve your interview request in Handshake.

How far in advance should interviews be scheduled?
You are encouraged to schedule interviews as early as possible so students will have the appropriate lead time to submit their resume to you. If you are interviewing on-campus, this will also give you the best selection of dates. Dates can be scheduled a semester in advance. However, a four to six week lead time is required for all interview schedules.

How does pre-selecting candidates work?
Preselecting allows you to choose who you want to interview on campus, much as you would through your organization's application process. Applicants can request an interview with you through Handshake and their application materials will be available for you to review. You can choose students in Handshake.  The accepted students will select an interview timeslot in Handshake.

What is a typical On-Campus Recruiting Day?

What about parking?
Visitors to campus must stop at the Visitor Center (located at the corner of Roosevelt and Park Aves.) Our office will reserve one parking space for each organization until 9 am on the day of the interview unless previous arrangements are made. Recruiters may pick up their Guest Permit at the Visitor Center.
If more than one parking space is needed, a Guest Permit may be obtained by contacting us at arcc@uwec.edu or 715-836-6018. Parking and no parking areas are posted throughout the campus. Vehicles parked in fire zone, expired meters, roadways and loading areas are subject to fines.

What if I am preselecting candidates from the career conference?
If you are preselecting candidates from a career event, make sure your recruiters are aware interviews are scheduled through Handshake. We will provide specific directions to the employers who are interviewing the day following the fair. For all other days, be sure to have any students you are interested in interviewing request an interview in Handshake.

On-Campus Fairs and Events

How do I register for a Career Fair?

Which career conference/fair should I attend?
We have the following suggestions to help you decide how to meet the right students for your organization:

  • If you are primarily hiring students for on-campus or part-time work, we suggest you attend the Part-time Job Fair.
  • For professional post-graduation positions and internships register to attend the Career Conferences
  • The Annual Nursing Fair is held in the fall and is especially suitable for organizations looking for nursing majors and professional healthcare schools (chiropractic, etc.)
  • The Education Career Fair is held in the spring and is attended by both education majors and those who are not teachers but are hoping to work in a school setting.  Any employer that is interested in hiring education majors should attend this event.
  • And of course, some organizations should attend multiple fairs as they are looking for different types of students for different types of opportunities.
